A little bit about Mr. Markwith

Mr. Greg Markwith is the Principal at the Academy of Arts and Sciences, and has worked at the school since its inception in 2005.  He was first a teacher, then an Assistant Principal and now serves in his current role.   He was born and raised in Redwood City, CA and attended Sequoia High School and graduated in 1996. After graduation he attended the University of California, Davis and earned a degree in English in 2000, and also met his future wife Elena. After graduating from Davis, he worked in media relations for the Sacramento River Cats and the San Francisco Giants, but then realized his real passion was working as an educator.  He started subbing in San Francisco and then got a job working as a technology teacher at a small private school in the Excelsior.    While there, he earned his teaching credential in English and a Master's degree in teaching.  After several years of teaching, he realized he wanted to go into administration and began the Principal Leadership Program at the University of California, Berkeley.  There, he earned his administrative credential and Masters in Educational Leadership, and became Assistant Principal at the Academy.  This year, he will serve as the first Principal responsible solely for the Academy.
